film tells the love story of Indonesia’s third president and his wife, Ainun. But
now we will discuss how the journey Habibie as President of Indonesia.
Habibie became the third president of Indonesia and replace President
Soeharto. In
May 1998, President Suharto resigned in order to avoid discord and greater
chaos. Habibie,
who was vice-president, continuing as president of the Indonesian government
through the 1999 election by the Assembly (MPR). Habibie
led government and started the reform era in Indonesia.
Habibie became president in a short time, 1 year and 5 months. In
Habibie leadership gives a new color in decision-making. Every
decision is based on factors that can be measured. Habibie’s
leadership patterns can be understood considering his educational background as a doctoral aircraft construction. However,
in the short term many major changes occurred in the leadership of President
Habibie. The new order became the reform period.
Habibie gave freedom in the political aspirations of the people, which in
the new order is very limited. Habibie
also set MPR decrees that provide the demands for reform include MPR Decree No.
X/MPR/1998,
on issues of reform and development in order to rescue the national
normalization as a state policy, MPR Decree No. XI/MPR/1998,
on the administration of the country is clean and free of corruption, collusion
and nepotism, No. MPR. XIII/MPR/1998,
term limits on the president and vice-president of the Republic of Indonesia. With the provisions of Decree No. XIII/MPR/1998,
president and vice president have a maximum term limit of two terms only.
Although the State of Indonesia is getting better in the Habibie government, as seen from the value of rupiahs against the dollar to below Rp. 10000.00, many opposition parties want to drop Habibie. Habibie's decision to allow the referendum in Timor Timur resulted in the loss of Timor Timur from Indonesia encourage the opposition. This effort was ultimately successful in the 1999 General Assembly, Habibie decided not to run again after his accountability report was rejected by the Assembly.
