The Fourth President

After the B. J. Habibie completed, the presidency is filled by Abdurrahman Wahid. He became the fourth President of Indonesia through an election by the Assembly election in 1999. Abdurrahman Wahid Abdurrahman fondly called in Indonesia, which has the meaning Abang Dur.
Gus Dur Indonesia leading the country in a relatively short time, from 1999 to 2001. But so many things are done in government. Gus Dur is very concerned with human rights. It’s seen from the approach to GAM and Papua. Gus Dur planned to give Aceh referendum. But the referendum was decisive as autonomy and not independence referendum in East Timor. Gus Dur also perform a more gentle approach to Aceh to reduce the number of military personnel. Gus Dur also visited Jayapura in the province of Irian Jaya. And he managed to convince the Papua leaders that he encouraged the use of the name Papua.
However under his leadership also invited opposition from several parties. It is related to the replacement of some ministers for reasons that do not have strong evidence. Some ministers were removed from office, among others Jusuf Kalla, Wiranto, Yusril Ihza Mahendra and Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. In addition to the dismissal of ministers, Gus Dur was also involved in the scandal Bruneigate. Gus Dur was accused of keeping money $ 2 million for himself. The money was a donation from the Sultan of Brunei to assist in Aceh. However, Gus Dur failed to account for the funds. The scandal called Bruneigate scandal.
And due his decision and also resistance from the opposition, the Assembly eventually formally impeach Wahid and Megawati replace it with. And thus ended the reign of Gus Dur.
