At
the end of Megawati's administration, the Indonesian people voted
directly for the President of Indonesia through the 2004 elections.
Dr. H. Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono was elected in the election and
become President of the sixth Republic of Indonesia. With Drs. M.
Jusuf Kalla as vice president, he led Indonesia from 2004 to 2009. On
October 20, 2009, Dr. H. Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono was sworn in as
President for the 2009-2014 period , with Prof. Dr. Boediono as vice
president after winning elections.
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono took an incredible journey. He holds a Master's degree in Management from Webster University, USA in 1991. He continued his study at the Bogor Institute of Agriculture, and in 2004 earned a Doctorate Degree in Agricultural Economics. In 2005, he was awarded with two Doctor Honoris Causa, each from his almamater, Webster University for law, and from Thammasat University in Thailand political science. He also underwent military life and served the military for 27 years.
Of his life experiences, Indonesia brought to a better direction. During the administration of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, Indonesia's economy is in a golden period. The indicators is inflation. Since 2005-2009, inflation successfully reduced from 17.11% in 2005 to 6.96% in 2009. Besides the poverty rate declined from 36.1 million in 2005, to 31.02 million people in 2010. That is, nearly 6 million people have escaped from poverty over the next 5 years.
In the political field the government was able to run well. KPK (Corruption Eradication Commission), which has been set up to tackle corruption, is still working to investigate issues of corruption in Indonesia. Although there are many cases, but the Commission still trying hard.
Indonesia under President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono can survive well in the global crisis in 2008. This proves that the government is able to overcome the existing situation. Although the administration of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono remaining for another year, hopefully Indonesia persisted and even become a better country
